活動主旨介紹

國立臺北教育大學學習與教學國際碩士學位學程邀請美國哈佛大學博克教學與學習中心之教育研究與評鑑的主任Jenny Bergeron,於107年5月25-27日來臺辦理工作坊 Course Improvement through Course Evaluation,此工作坊與教學實務升等相關。

講師介紹

Jenny Bergeron, PhD, is the Director of Educational Research and Evaluation at the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning where she oversees evaluation and research of Harvard’s leading educational initiatives. As a strong proponent of evidence-based policy and reform in higher education, Bergeron has a longstanding commitment of helping to envision and realize projects that can transform the practice of education of top American universities as well as research in higher education.

Bergeron is a trained psychometrician with a research focus in Educational Psychology and has over 10 years of experience working in Higher Education. Before coming to Harvard, she served as a leader in assessment and evaluation at Stanford University.

Program Outline

  • 9-12 a.m.

    • 1. Introduction to the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning (film), Harvard University
      2. Introduction to Educational Research and Evaluation division of the Bok center (Evaluation, an integral piece of instruction and course development)
      3. Core principles of course evaluation
  • 1-4 p.m.

    • 1. Articulating learning outcomes (focus on cognitive and affective domains)
      2. In-class Group Practices
      a. Use learning taxonomies to guide course objectives
      b. Align course objectives with department/program/college/university’s desired learning outcomes (taking NTUE’s 28 learning outcomes as an example)
      c. Creating a matrix that aligns course objectives/learning outcomes to course activities/assignments
  • 9-12 a.m.

    • 1. Share and reflect on alignment matrices
      2. A Harvard case study of course evaluation/course improvement
      3. Concept of framing assessment questions
  • 1-4 p.m.

    • 1. Various types of assessments and data collection mechanisms for course evaluation
      2. In-class Group Practices
      a. Frame learning outcomes into assessment questions
      b. Devise data collection methods or evidence to be gathered to address evaluation questions
  • 9-12 a.m.

    • 1. More Harvard case studies of course evaluation/course improvement: key indicators and interpretation of findings
      2. Tie the evaluation results into action for continuous improvement
  • 1-4 p.m.

    • 1. In-class Group Practice
      a. Share and reflect on evaluation questions and data collection plans
      b. Receive feedback by peers and the instructor
      c. Refine course evaluation proposal
